Weddings Parties Anything, often known as WPA and Weddoes, is an Australian folk rock band formed by Mick Thomas in Melbourne in 1985 and continuing until 1998. Their name came from a Clash song ("Revolution Rock") and musicologist Billy Pinnell described their first album as the best Australian rock debut since Skyhooks' Living in the '70s. WPA initially gained a reputation as a hot new band through their constant touring in their early days, however they never really became a commercial success.

Elbury

After a couple of writing sessions together Edward and Michael realised that their strong individual styles blended into a seamless combination of jazz, folk and swing with hints of blues. This heralded the birth of Elbury. Ever since these early writing sessions Elbury has honed their composition skills to create smooth rounded edges to their sound. Through an intricate use of finger picking and harmonies that evoke goose bumps, in songs such as 'Seventh Age'. Many times over Elbury have been thanked by their listeners for the warm state that their wooded acoustic sound brought them to.

Anna Cordell

Anna Cordell has always been a ‘maker’. From her youngest years spent singing and writing folk songs on her nylon string guitar, to the first stitches of her design work, and all the way into motherhood, Cordell has a natural flair for creation.

After taking an almost decade long hiatus from music making - a period in which she became a mother to five children and began working on her now thriving clothing label - Anna has now made her return to music, having released her first full-length record ‘Nobody Knows Us’ on February 14th, 2020.

Recorded in Lyttleton, New Zealand by Ben Edwards (Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams, Julia Jacklin) ‘Nobody Knows Us’ is an album that wears its heart on its sleeve.

Taking inspiration from folk writers of the 60s and 70s, from Joni Mitchell to Nick Drake and Sibylle Baier, as well as more contemporary counterparts like Midlake and Weyes Blood, Anna has created a collection of songs that stay true to her belief in the value and power of art.

‘Nobody Knows Us’ explores the space within us that is separate to the wider world. The internal resources that no external factor can control, and the freedom that comes with that preservation. Following a writing process that saw Anna through the grief of lamenting a loved one, as well as the joy and energy of new life, this record grapples with ideas of meaning and purpose, asking questions that only the rawness of life and death can evoke.

Following her Australian support shows with Seeker Lover Keeper and Ryan Downey, for which she performs as a solo artist, Cordell's album was launched at Howler, Melbourne and Golden Age Cinema, Sydney.

‘Nobody Knows Us’ is available via bandcamp.

Cheer Advisory Council

Cheer Advisory Council formed in Adelaide, Australia in late 2008. At its biggest, the Council now boasts seven members, even reclaiming the bassoon as the rock instrument it always knew it could be. The band's dusky, smoky feel, with slow tempos and crashing crescendos, is reminiscent of the music of Low, The National, Midlake and Wilco. Their first album, 'Distance', will be released independently on 30 April 2011, featuring many group harmonies, some pop hooks and one big guitar solo.
