I've never tried to mask my unbridled desire for the Jewelled Antler Collective - these San Francisco-based forest dwellers have managed to do something quite magical in them there woods, and make psychedelic folk music (free folk, new weird America, whatever) sound simply irresistible. I don't know what it is really, maybe it's the guiding hand of Thuja-member and founder of the whole thing Loren Chasse, who appears here as the spiritual frontman of Softwar.

The Waifs

The Waifs (originally styled as The WAiFS) are an Australian folk rock band formed in 1992 in Albany, Western Australia, by Josh Cunningham (guitar, vocals), and sistersVikki Thorn (nÃ©e Simpson) (harmonica, guitar, vocals) and Donna Simpson (guitar, vocals). Their tour band includes Ben Franz (bass) and David Ross Macdonald (drums).

The band's 2003 album Up All Night reached the top five of the Australian Albums Chart, it achieved double platinum status and won four ARIA Awards in October. Two further top five albums were issued, Sun Dirt Water in 2007 and Temptation in 2011. The Waifs have three top fifty singles, "London Still" (2002), "Bridal Train" (2004) and "Sun Dirt Water". The band supported Bob Dylan on his 2003 Australian tour and then his 2003 North American tour, including a gig at the Newport Folk Festival.

The Waifs founded the independent label Jarrah Records in July 2002, co-owned with fellow musician John Butler, and their common manager Phil Stevens, which handles their Australian releases. Ange Takats

National Folk Festival winner of the 2008 Lis Johnston Award for vocal excellence, Ange Takats' voice has been described as Joan Baez meets Gillian Welch. Her debut album Aniseed Tea tells stories of knitting, longing and lovely Irishmen. Born in Sydney but now based on the Sunny Coast, Ange somehow managed to begin her musical journey in Bangkok where she was based for two years as a foreign correspondent.

Lior

Lior Attar (born 1976) is an Israeli, independent Australian singer-songwriter based in Sydney. A talented guitarist and vocalist, his sound is defined by the combination of a contemporary roots sound with many Israeli/Middle Eastern and Jewish influences. In early 2005, Lior released his debut album, "Autumn Flow". The album was nominated for three ARIA Awards: Best Breakthrough Artist, Best Male Artist, and Best Independent Release, the album was also nominated for the J Award, presented by youth radio station Triple J for the "Australian Album of the Year" .

The John Butler Trio

The John Butler Trio is an eclectic roots/jam band from Australia led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler. Two of the band's albums, Three (2001) and Living 2001-2002 (2003), have gone platinum in Australia, each reaching the top ten of the Australian album charts. John Butler was born on April 1, 1975 in Torrance, California to an Australian father and American mother. He moved to the small Western Australian town of Pinjarra on 26 January 1986 when he was eleven.

Holly Kirby

Holly Kirby is a singer-songwriter and musician from the Isle of Wight, England. Her YouTube channel, alpet07, which she set up aged 16 in 2007, is frequently one of the most viewed musician's sites on YouTube in the UK. In the past year much of Holly's work has been an eclectic mix of Celtic, folk and pop music.
