Laura Marling

Laura Marling (born 1st February 1990) is a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist from Eversley, United Kingdom. She began playing the guitar at the age of five, first being taught the blues by her father in front of the family fire, and has been enthralled by the songs and lyrics of the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and John Mayall ever since. It’s not just the “golden-oldies” that Laura admires; she also harbours a rather deep love for alt.country’s favourite son, Ryan Adams.

Dover

Dover is a spanish alternative-pop-rock band which was founded in 1992. The Band currently consists of the sisters Christina Llanos (guitar/vocals) and Amparo Llanos (guitar), Jesús Antúnez (drums) and Samuel Titos (bass) who recently replaced former bass Álvaro Díez. Their music is from heavy to sweet, shouting to dreaming, but always with a groovy drive. Dover originated in the outskirts of Madrid at the beginning of the 1990s when the Llanos sisters decided to form a rock band encouraged by the alternative scene from Seattle.

Pieta Brown

Pieta Brown's own blend of folk, rock, country and blues has garnered numerous comparisons to musical forbearers like Rickie Lee Jones, Bobbie Gentry, and Bob Dylan. Lyrically and musically poetic, Brown's deceptive simplicity and seductive purity combine to create songs that meet somewhere between the Carter Family and Tom Waits. Pieta's purity goes deep into the heart, summoning up feelings of safety and longing, both at the same time.

Hussy Hicks

The Hussy Hicks have spent the past years living and playing their brand of funky feel-good folk music all over the globe. The girls, Julz Parker and Leesa Gentz, met in late 2004 and found a musical chemistry that has taken them on a rollercoaster journey - performing on every continent, from the intimate coffeehouse circuit of the USA to major festivals including Glastonbury, UK; The Plateau Festival, NJ America, the Sarzarna International Guitar Festival in Italy (2008 and 2009) and the Berlin Carnival of Cultures in Germany.

Dum Dum Girls

Dum Dum Girls are a noise pop band which formed in 2008 in Los Angeles, Califonia, United States. The band consists of Dee-Dee (vocals, guitar), Jules (guitar, vocals), Bambi (bass, vocals) and Sandy (drums). Dee Dee formed Dum Dum Girls as a solo project—the name a nod to both The Vaselines’ album, Dum-Dum, and the Iggy Pop song Dum Dum Boys — and released a home-recorded CDR on her label Zoo Music followed by a 7" on Hozac and a 12" EP on Captured Tracks.

Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor was born on 18th February 1980, in Moscow, Russia, and moved to the United States when she was nine. Spektor studied classical piano from the age of six, practising on a Petrof piano given to her mother by her grandfather. She was also exposed to the music of rock and roll bands such as The Beatles, Queen, and The Moody Blues by her father, who obtained such recordings in Eastern Europe and traded cassettes with friends in the Soviet Union.

Martha Wainwright

Singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright is the daughter of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and the sister of Rufus Wainwright. She has frequently appeared on recordings by her family members, and has released several independent EPs. Her full length self-titled debut was released in 2005 by Drowned in Sound, followed in 2008 by I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too.

Loveshy

There are at least two bands with the name Loveshy 1) Canberra Hardcore. 2)LoveShy is a UK pop duo, made up of Aimee Kearsley and Emma Beard. In 2002, they competed as soloists in TV show Popstars - The Rivals, making the last ten female singers, but failing to make the top five, who became Girls Aloud. The other five, minus Javine, then formed girlgroup CLEA (an acronym of their initials). CLEA scored three UK top 40 hits between 2003 and 2005, later becoming a trio.

Catcall’s sound omits whiffs of early Kate Bush, Grace Jones and Tom Tom Club but also stands next to contemporaries such as Santigold, The Knife and disco queen Glass Candy; her original style shows off a strong character, with beats and quirky melodies that quickly sublet their way into your brain 23-year old Catherine Kelleher cut her musical teeth as a teenager in DIY punk group Kiosk; a band famed for their polarizing and bratty no-wave noise sound but eventually discovered their pop sensibility within the aggression and urgency of punk rock.
