Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear is an indie/folk rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Their music uses melody and ambiance in conjunction with hazy-eyed choruses, whistles, piano, banjo, and several woodwind instruments. Grizzly Bear was originally the solo project of Edward Droste (vocals/guitar), who recorded his debut album Horn Of Plenty at home. The record was originally meant for his friends, but it eventually circulated and got a proper release in 2004, this time with the help of Christopher Bear (drums/vocals). A re-release with a bonus disc of remixes was issued in 2005.

The Ruby Suns

'Fight Softly' is the third album by New Zealand's pop masters The Ruby Suns. Ryan McPhun (their prime mover) has the kind of voracious musical mind that cites as equal influences '80s/'90s New Jack Swing and modern Angolan kuduro, Fleetwood Mac and Britney Spears, Brazilian tropicalia and Argentinean cumbia. He's the kind of diligent, meticulous soul that spends days hunched over a laptop in a tiny rented studio in Auckland, NZ just to perfect a sequenced drum track (mission accomplished).

Goblin

Goblin was an <a href="http://www.last.fm/place/italy">Italian</a> <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/progressive%20rock" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">progressive rock</a> band who were known for their soundtracks on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dario_Argento" rel="nofollow">Dario Argento</a> films (e.g. Deep Red of 1975 a.k.a. Profondo Rosso and Suspiria of 1977). They were initially named <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Cherry+Five" class="bbcode_artist">Cherry Five</a> and were influenced by <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Genesis" class="bbcode_artist">Genesis</a> and <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/King+Crimson" class="bbcode_artist">King Crimson</a>. Their early work spawned one progressive rock record named after the band, until they were called in as replacements for <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/composer" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">composer</a> <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Giorgio+Gaslini" class="bbcode_artist">Giorgio Gaslini</a>, who had left the film Profondo Rosso after a conflict with director Dario Argento. They changed their name to Goblin and rewrote most of the score, including the famous main theme.

Teengirl Fantasy

Teengirl Fantasy is Logan and Nick, two friends at Oberlin College in Ohio. It's tough to classify Teengirl Fantasy's music within one genre - both <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Harmonia" class="bbcode_artist">Harmonia</a> and <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/CeCe+Peniston" class="bbcode_artist">CeCe Peniston</a> serve as equal reference points. Teengirl Fantasy's love of drone, 4/4, and warm gating synths force new classifications of electronic music. Their debut album, 7AM, was released in September 2010 through True Panther Sounds/Merok labels.

Sofie Loizou

It all started when Sofie, age 15, borrowed an old synthesiser from a friend. Intrigued and beguiled by its puzzling menu layout and strangely labelled functions, she was destined to ask "what does that button do?". Thus began a long and sordid love affair with electronics and music. Visit Sofie's myspace page for more info. http://myspace.com/sofieloizoumusic
