DARTZ (NZ)

Dartz! (often stylized as DARTZ!) were a Math rock group from Middlesbrough, England, who formed at the beginning of 2005. They are signed to Xtra Mile Recordings in the UK and Deep Elm in the US, and released one full-length album, one mini-album, three singles and a split 7-inch via Xtra Mile, as well as an EP on Sunderland based DIY micro-label Fakedream Records, and a split 10-inch with Scottish band Stapleton on Gravity DIP.

They recorded with the record producer Mark Williams (Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party, Fightstar, Nine Black Alps, Million Dead, Ghymp) at the Battery Studios in London and they toured with Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Hot Club De Paris and The Rumble Strips, as well as also playing with bands including The Futureheads, Melt Banana, The Young Knives, Make Believe and Foals. More recently Dartz added long-time collaborator Nico Taylor, once the logistics man for the band, to the line-up.

In September 2007, the band announced that they were going to take a break from touring to focus on their education, with Maughan studying English Literature at Oxford University and Anderson studying English and Film at Sheffield Hallam.[citation needed] The decision was explained in an article in The Times newspaper entitled "Bands Balancing Uni With Fame", although it was criticised by the NME in the magazine's review of "The Sad History Of The Village Of Alnerique" in September 2008.[citation needed] Dartz have had three videos featured on MTV2, all of which were directed by Teesside University lecturer Marcus T. Diamond. A fourth video, for the track "Cold Holidays", was recorded by Wife Swap cameraman Rob Taylor during the band's tour with I Was A Cub Scout.[citation needed]

They broke up on 2 July 2009 according to their MySpace page. Their final live outing was at The Peel, Kingston. Support came from former touring partner Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

Des Cortez

Spending the last year honing their skills, Des Cortez are a force to be reckoned with. Comprising of high school friends Devlin (drums) Paddy (bass) and Sam (guitar/vocals) the trio developed their unique hazy indie sound in the summer after their year 12 year, cumulating in the release of their debut EP ‘Burn After Listening’ in 2021 that launched them into the Melbourne scene.

Since then, Des Cortez have taken Melbourne by storm, releasing a string of beloved singles and regularly playing in front of huge crowds including a recent sold-out single launch in the Espy’s Gershwin room. The band also frequently support larger acts, such as Agung Mango, Dear Sunday, Summer Thieves, South Summit and The Rions.

Their live sets have been described as intimate and mesmerising due to their high energy as well as catchy rhythm and melodic sections that reflect the nuance of their recordings.

Jeff Rosenstock

Jeff Rosenstock was an anxious kid who grew into an anxious adult and has also made a bunch of music along the way with a bunch of bands, most notably Bomb the Music Industry! who apparently pioneered giving shit away for free on the internet - or at least got some of the credit for it.

Now he plays with his bi-coastal band of rad musicians, mixing punk heart with diverse instrumentation and occasional accuracy. Rosenstock has built his career on an uncompromising commitment to stay true to his beliefs. He’s toured the globe countless times and played to thousands of dedicated fans. In addition to the vast critical acclaim he’s received from places like Pitchfork, The NY Times, NPR and others, Jeff's work can be heard scoring the Cartoon Network series Craig of the Creek, which was nominated for multiple awards, including 2 Emmys. History

Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic had known of each other around the Byron Bay area before Pavlovic sent Maddel some demos in 2019, with Pavlovic claiming this was "the collaboration he'd been chasing his whole life".

In October 2021, the duo released their debut EP Campus. This was followed in August 2022, with Bar & Grill. Their third EP Sofa Kings, released in March 2023, peaked at number 43 on the ARIA Charts following its physical release in July 2023.

In October 2023, the group announced the release of their debut studio album Pratts & Pain, scheduled for release on 16 February 2024.[6][7] In January 2024, they received attention for a cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's song "Murder on the Dancefloor" on Triple J.

Patrick Wilson

There’s a tender, unmistakable charm that lingers in the work of natural-born storyteller, Patrick Wilson. Rich in craftsmanship, Wilson’s trademark sound and approach to songwriting are gifts only strengthened by the life he breathes into performance.

His is a befitting narrative. It was in 2010 that Wilson, a Torquay tragic and lover of community life decided once-and-for-all to satiate his own creative hunger. Channeling the intricate romanticism of a small-town upbringing into writing, recording, and a debut EP, Anywhere With A Rooftop (2017), Wilson began the painstakingly slow but ultimately revolutionary process of personal reinvention.

It’s not often that audiences witness an artist whose output is so grounded, personable, and heartrendingly honest. As it happens, there’s a distinct warmth and benevolence sewn deep within the lining of Wilson’s craft. We’ve seen it with the likes of Marlon Williams, Kacey Musgraves and Roy Orbison, all stars in their own right, but it’s in Patrick Wilson that this unique class of alternative, old-time Americana finds its true north.

Wilson’s rich, even-flowing voice tempts light to even the darkest corners of rooms and implores us, above all, to place trust in the hands of its owner. Make no mistake: Patrick Wilson is a man of his word.

A true musician of the rarest skill, he remains in demand as a drummer and long-time guitarist for a conglomeration of Australian acts including Fanny Lumsden, Henry Wagons Georgia State Line, Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes, Ben Mastwyk and his Millions and many more.Wilson has - in newfound resonance supported The Bellamy Brothers (USA), Australian country heavyweight Bill Chambers (Dead Ringer Band),and has travelled internationally playing shows alongside James Ellis and the Jealous Guys.Appearing onstage at some of Australia’s best festivals on offer including The Tamworth Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, Gympie Music Muster, Falls festival.

“I heard Patrick Wilson sing for the first time in a small studio in Melbourne. His voice and his songs just blew me away.”

- Bill Chambers

It’s fair enough, too, because here is a reborn and beautifully mature musician now hell-bent on satisfying our cravings for a damned good tune. It’s in Wilson and his craft that we arrive home.

Vacations

Australian indie rock band Vacations developed a following first at home and then around the world for their smooth-surfaced music built around the interplay of guitar and electronic keyboards and seasoned with the influences of lo-fi, indie pop, and 1980s alternative sounds. Led by guitarist and principal songwriter Campbell Burns, Vacations' early work, such as the 2015 Days EP, made an advantage of their low-budget production, with the music having a naturalistic, live feel. It wasn't long before they became more comfortable with studio craft, and 2018's Changes and 2020's Forever in Bloom revealed a greater sophistication. Released in 2023, their Terms & Conditions EP added a more emotional, personal tone to Burns' performances.

Vibes
Hailing from Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, Vacations were formed in 2015 by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Campbell Burns. Initially taking a D.I.Y. approach, Burns self-released the band's first EP, 2015's Days, which featured bassist Jake Johnson and drummer Harrison Chapman. By the time Vacations brought out their second EP, 2016's Vibes, the group had settled on a stable lineup, with Burns and Johnson joined by lead guitarist Nate Delizzotti and drummer Joseph Van Lier. Vibes included the song "Young," which became their breakthrough track after it went viral on social media, pushing the song's streaming numbers into nine figures. Extensive touring followed, and in 2017, the Days and Vibes EPs were given a two-fer reissue on compact disc. 2018 saw the release of Vacations' first full-length album, 2018's Changes. The album gave the group another massive hit with the song "Telephones," and the band was filling large venues at home and in the United Kingdom as well as making their United States debut at the South by Southwest festival. After issuing a stand-alone single in 2019, "On Your Own," the second LP from Vacations, Forever in Bloom, was issued in 2020, though the band's efforts to promote it were compromised by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made touring impossible. Burns retreated to his home and began writing new material while beginning work on building his own recording studio. Once the studio was complete, Vacations recorded a three-song EP, Terms & Conditions, which appeared in July 2023; along with the title track, it included two successful singles, "Midwest" and "Next Exit."
