The Modfathers

Heavy Soul, the follow-up to the million-selling Stanley Road, saw Weller twist his sound again. The album was more raw than its predecessor; Weller was now frequently playing live in the studio in as few takes as possible.[citation needed] The first single "Peacock Suit" reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart, and the album reached No. 2. Success in the charts also came from compilations: "Best Of" albums by the Jam and the Style Council charted, and in 1998 his own solo collection Modern Classics was a substantial success.

In 2000, while living in Send, Surrey, he released his fifth solo studio album, Heliocentric. Once again finding himself without a record contract, Weller's Days of Speed worldwide tour provided him with the opportunity to view his works as one back catalogue, giving rise to a second successful live album in 2001. Days of Speed contained live acoustic versions from the world tour of the same name, including some of his best-known songs from his solo career and the back catalogues of his Jam and Style Council days.

There were rumours at the time that Heliocentric would be Weller's final studio effort, but these proved unfounded when he released the No. 1 hit album Illumination in September 2002. Co-produced by Noonday Underground's Simon Dine, it was preceded by yet another top 10 hit single "It's Written in the Stars". Weller also appears on the 2002 Noonday Underground album called Surface Noise, singing on the track "I'll Walk Right On".

In 2002, Weller collaborated with Terry Callier on the single "Brother to Brother", which featured on Callier's album Speak Your Peace. In 2003, Weller teamed up with electronic rock duo Death in Vegas on a cover of Gene Clark's "So You Say You Lost Your Baby", which featured on their Scorpio Rising album.

In 2004, Weller released an album of covers entitled Studio 150. It debuted at No. 2 in the UK charts and included Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" as well as covers of songs by Gil Scott-Heron, Rose Royce and Gordon Lightfoot, amongst others.

Weller's 2005 album As Is Now featured the singles "From the Floorboards Up", "Come On/Let's Go" and "Here's the Good News". The album was well-received, though critics noted that he was not moving his music forward stylistically,[14] and it became his lowest-charting album since his 1992 debut.

In February 2006 it was announced that Weller would be the latest recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BRIT Awards. Despite a tendency to shun such occasions, Weller accepted the award in person, and performed four songs at the ceremony, including the Jam's classic "Town Called Malice". In June 2006, another double live album titled Catch-Flame!, featuring songs from both his solo work and his career with the Jam and the Style Council, was released. In late 2006, the album Hit Parade was released, which collected all the singles released by the Jam, the Style Council and Weller during his solo career. Two versions of this album were released: a single disc with a selection from each stage of his career, and a four-disc limited edition, which included every single released and came with a 64-page booklet. Weller was offered appointment as a Commander of the Order of British Empire in the 2006 birthday honours, but rejected the offer.[15]

In 2007 Weller was guest vocalist on the album issue by the folk musical project the Imagined Village.

Maddy Jane

Maddy Jane is a singer-songwriter from the small island town of Bruny Island, Tasmania.

Telling it like it is since 2017; Maddy’s honest lyrics and captivating song writing have earned her a regular spot on triple j’s airways and a place on huge arena tours supporting the likes of Harry Styles and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

With millions of streams for breakout tracks ‘Thank You and Sorry’ and ‘No Other Way’, Maddy’s ironic and direct storytelling is resonating across the globe.

After two years of heavy touring and sold out shows, Maddy released her debut full-length album, ‘Not All Bad Or Good’ in 2020. The record scored triple j’s feature album and saw Maddy perform hit single ‘Perfection’s a Thing and You’re It’ and Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten' for triple j’s Like a Version.

Nancy & The Jam Fancys

Nancy and the Jam Fancys are 5 young men from Moruya, 300km south of Sydney, a town known for its granite and oysters. Their band grew out of the boredom of their small town during the plague years.

Their name came from an acid trip vocalist Lewis Griffin shared with two local pigs “Nancy” and “Jam Fancy”. They make music that recalls the halcyon age of Australian punk music, underpinned by one of the more remarkable rock and roll voices in recent times.

They are fresh. Real fresh. So fresh in fact that they are yet to play a show in a capital city.

Their early recordings have seen them support Mini Skirt and Pist Idiots and attracted the attention of Endless Recordings.

Their debut single “Carmen Electra” was recorded at The Drop Studio in Wollongong by Darcy Rosskelly. It brings to mind Birdman or the Celibate Rifles, if somehow those bands had been fronted by an Antipodean Jim Morrison. This won’t be the last time you hear of the boys from Moruya.

Deb5000

Auckland, NZ punk four-piece with all its female members coming out of other bands (though I haven’t been able to find which ones) to create the ridiculous, the fabulous, DEB5000. Take one look at the cassette cover, it’s amazing; take one look at the track list—where’d they come up with this shit? “Bad Guts” about gastro-intestinal problems, “Keanu (Wyld Stallyn)” that makes a song out of Keanu Reeves characters. I think “Termite Queen” rocks the hardest and makes a great metaphor for female strength. This is some wild Down Under punk rock, and I would recommend.

The Buzzcocks

Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto formed in Bolton in 1976. During their career, the band combined elements of punk rock, power pop, and pop punk. They achieved commercial success with singles that fuse pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy; these singles were later collected on Singles Going Steady, an acclaimed compilation album music journalist and critic Ned Raggett described as a "punk masterpiece".

Devoto left the band in 1977, after which Pete Shelley became the principal singer-songwriter.[9] After releasing three albums, the band broke up in 1981 following a dispute with their record label, and reunited in 1989 and released six more albums before Shelley's death in 2018.[10] The band has remained active, being led by their original bassist Steve Diggle, who assumed guitarist-and-singer duties, and this line-up released the 2022 album Sonics in the Soul.

Electric Six

Electric Six is an American rock band formed in Detroit in 1996. They are known for combining elements of comedy rock, disco, garage rock, metal, new wave, and punk rock.[1] Since achieving widespread recognition in 2003 with the singles "Danger! High Voltage" and "Gay Bar", they have released 14 studio albums, two rarities albums, one live album, and one live DVD. Each band member is given a unique stage name, and the line-up has undergone multiple changes over the years; co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter Dick Valentine has been the only constant member. The current line-up consists of Valentine, lead guitarist Johnny Na$hinal, rhythm guitarist Da Vé, keyboardist Tait Nucleus?, bassist Rob Lower, and drummer Todd Glass.

Dead Boys (USA)

Today, American punk rock band Dead Boys announce their first ever Australian Tour. The Cleveland Ohio punk band were among the first wave of punk, and regarded by many as one of the rowdiest and most in your face groups of the era. This is one show not to be missed. Full tour details below.
Dead Boys were formed by vocalist Stiv Bators, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Zero, bassist Jeff Magnum, lead guitarist Cheetah Chrome and drummer Johnny Blitz in 1975. The original Dead Boys released two studio albums, Young, Loud and Snotty and We Have Come For Your Children.

The Dead Boys were initially active from 1975 to 1980, briefly reuniting a few times in the mid-1980s, and then later again in 2004 and 2005 for the first time without Bators, who had died in 1990. In September 2017, Chrome and Blitz reunited the band with a new line-up for a 40th anniversary tour along with a new album, Still Snotty: Young, Loud and Snotty at 40, a re-recording of their debut album. The new lineup includes vocalist Jake Hout, guitarist Jason "Ginchy" Kottwitz and bassist Ricky Rat, alongside Chrome and Blitz.

"The brutality and energy are all intact, but with more polish, and singer Jake Hout remarkably re-creates Bators' post-Alice Cooper snarl."

Through Cody’s powerful, driving songwriting, he shares memories of breakups, new relationships and the breakdown of old ones, and struggling through illness while trying to find balance in the world again – each chapter layered with his own raw vulnerability while leaving space for listeners to bring their own experiences, as if in deep conversation with a close friend.

New single “Ought” is one of those chapters, of the track Cody says, “This was the last song written for the EP and felt like the perfect ending for the chapter of my life that I wanted to write about. It’s about friend breakups, and basically me venting my anger about how someone had hurt me but also trying to move on. It’s a pretty pointed song towards someone and I hope they hear it.”

underlay combines jangly guitars, analogue synths, and introspective yet brazenly honest lyrics to create his self-described brand of “nervous pop.” After working behind the scenes in the studio or appearing on stage for acts such as Fritz, OILBARON, Chakra Efendi, and fellow Nettwerk artist Vacations, Cody released his self-titled solo EP in 2021. underlay touches on sounds reminiscent of bands like Smith Westerns, Beach Fossils, The Strokes, and Girls. His live shows bring a DIY energy and sound underpinned with dry humor. He has recently toured alongside acts including Slowly Slowly, Stand Atlantic, and Stumps.
