Artist Type:

EMA

There are 2 artists named EMA: 1) EMA is Erika Anderson of the recently broken up long running American west-coast band Gowns. Using solo guitar, piano, voice and tape collage her music could not be blessed with more heartfelt beauty, it seems almost impossible the amount of intimate feeling in the sounds, taking on the piece of music as an instrument in and of itself to accompany Erika's amazing voice and lyrics. Artist Type:

Russ Chimes

In a sea of postmodern hipsters come bedroom producers on a sparkling lilo of talent. Russ Chimes is a man from the UK who knows whats in the party. Sounding a bit like something halfway between a Sega game and an airbrushed mural of Wayfarer'd flamingos, Russ Chimes' tunes may at times elicit some degree of nostalgia, although the inherent quality definitley proves he's more about about doing what feels good rather than the irony. (in a manner perhaps akin to funk fanatics Chromeo).

Artist Type:

Scratch Perverts

The Scratch Perverts are a collective of turntablist DJs from the UK, formed in 1996 by Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and DJ Plus One. The Scratch Perverts originally consisted of 4 members; Tony Vegas, Renegade, First Rate and Mr. Thing. Having made names for themselves both individually and as a team, The Scratch Perverts soon expanded to a 8-member crew with the addition of Prime Cuts, Harry Love, Killa Kela and DJ Plus One.

Artist Type:

Martyn

Martyn’s unique strand of bass defies easy categorisation - to his fans and admirers, it’s known simply as ‘Martyn Music.’ With a sound that has become emblematic for all that’s forward thinking in dubstep Martyn pushes a defiant out-of-the-box mentality into his every artistic venture, scorning genre convention and relentlessly embracing the new. Informed by a love for Detroit techno, Chicago house and hip-hop, encountering drum & bass in its mid-90’s golden era was the catalyst for him to develop his musical ideas and begin to lay the foundations of his career as a DJ & Producer.

Artist Type:

Tiësto

Tijs Michiel Verwest (born January 17, 1969 in Breda, The Netherlands) is better known by his stage name Tiësto. He started out DJing professionally at school parties, and then moved on to become a resident DJ from 1985 to 1993 at several clubs in The Netherlands. It was at a club called 'The Spock' where things really took off for Tiësto; he stopped producing hardcore/gabber tracks and started to produce his own sound from 10pm until 4am on weekends. In the mid 1990s, Tiësto started to produce trance and the rest, as they say, is history.

Artist Type:

Sébastien Tellier

Sébastien Tellier is an exceptional, highly personal & intimate artist echoing such other one-offs as Robert Wyatt, Syd Barrett or Serge Gainsbourg. His first LP, L'incroyable vérité (The Incredible Truth) (2001), was a fantastical pop album, which careered from lo-fi electronica to bizarre cabaret tunes. Its sleeve featured Tellier in full evening dress on the front, while the back of jacket had a shot of him cavorting in some playboy’s pool. He instructed listeners to only listen to the album by candle light and won a tight band of adherents, who fell for his lush, humorous compositions.

Laconica

Laconica is a dark, melancholy-pop, solo music project of New York native, Justin D’Amico. A child of the ‘80s, Justin has imbued Laconica with stylistic nods to the earlier efforts of The Cure, and Siouxsie & The Banshees while also incorporating some of the electro / industrial influences so much loved by fans of the wide Goth genre. In an attempt to categorize his music in relation to his influences, Justin has dubbed Laconica's style as "post-goth" and hopes to see this label gain currency among music writers discussing bands that are actually known to the public.
