The Fumes

1.) Compelling Sydney two-piece, The Fumes burst onto the scene in 2004. The Fumes deliver multi-facetted stylistic raw blues tunes mashed with healthy rock riffs and snappy beats. Steve Merry (Vocals, Guitar) spent 12 months in the U.S where he took on some mentoring from Bob Brozman and an opportunity to immerse himself with many styles of music. It helped define and develop The Fumes. The Fumes complete with the addition of Joel Battersby, who had been drumming with members of The Beautiful Girls, proceeded to churn out an 8-track demo.

Screwtape

Walter Gross and Bizzart form Screwtape. An experiment in lost and found sound and noises and samples of some of the weirdest and just most obscure shit I've ever heard. But one thing I've learned about Walter Gross and one thing I've trained myself to do, is to listen to the beats and melodies he hears in his head, and when you break down those walls that tell you what you're listening to is just noise, you'll hear it too.

The Fearless Vampire Killers

The Fearless Vampire Killers are a hot surfy blues rock band from Melbourne who love to jive and vamp. Founders Seán Ainsworth, Al Marx and Dylan Lieberman formed the group while attending high school together in 2005. With 'not so bad' instruments and regular rehearsals, the band soon started playing gigs, mainly at friends' parties and school fetes, but it wasn’t long until the band exploded into the Melbourne music scene impressing the real hard arse, glass-throwing punters.

Plastic Palace Alice

PLASTIC PALACE ALICE hails from Melbourne, Australia. A clue to the eccentric tastes found within lies in the band's choice of name, a reference to a character in a song by the king of existential, heavily orchestrated pop, Mr Scott Walker. Not wanting to place limits on the band's musical palette, Plastic Palace Alice borrows elements from diverse musics: Brechtian cabaret, Phil Spector, garage rock, 60's psychedelic pop and 80's inspired goth melodrama are all found on the band's musical radar.

Their sound is much in the vein of contemporaries such as Daft Punk, drawing considerable influence from older bands such as New Order, Electric Light Orchestra and Kraftwerk. It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford, however in 2003 Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles.

Via Tania

Tania Bowers still remembers the rabbit footprints that once dotted her bedroom floor. It's hard not to. That's where it all started, after all—where she'd hide for hours dreaming up songs, letting her imagination take flight alongside schoolteacher parents who were "great storytellers" and "didn't always separate fact from fiction." "I was an outsider from an early age," says Tania, a Sydney native who's weaved in and out of the Chicago music scene for the past decade. "I've always been quite comfortable with it, though."

The Rumjacks

Every man in Australian folk punk band THE RUMJACKS has done his time in mud and slime and torn up rooms and soggy carpets in all four corners of The Colonies. All 'Jacks' have served with honour and infamy in various rock bands, rockabilly outfits, Celtic ensembles and combinations thereof. There is no need here to dribble off the details, but their belts jangle with the beaded scalps and stolen trinkets of many a campaign.
